The UA-853AC and the UA-85X Series

Lifesource Blood Pressure Monitor

Blood Pressure Monitor Review

The Lifesource Blood Pressure Monitor UA-853AC -Stand-Up – A Workhorse

Some of you, that follow my reviews, may have already figured out that blood pressure monitor reviews are one of my favorite products to report on. Being a long time member of the medical product review community, I know all too well, how dangerous not being proactive about your health can be. HCL (Health Care Laziness), as I like to call it, is all too common and it can literally rob you of years from your life.

For those in their ‘Golden Years’, or those fast approaching them, blood pressure monitors can be invaluable in helping them maintain good cardiovascular health. I don’t write these reviews, because I enjoy them; I write them because they provide information to people about important products. In fact, I honestly believe that no home should be without a blood pressure monitor.

I suppose I’ve rambled on long enough, it’s time to actually review the Lifesource UA-853AC Stand-Up Blood Pressure Monitor. I usually like to review the more portable types (because I travel a lot myself) of blood pressure monitor. But even the best portable monitors, cannot match full-sized home units like the UA-853AC, for accuracy and features. This monitor does everything and more that you can ask from a home pressure monitor.

Well built and well designed, the accuracy of the Lifesource UA-853AC is second to none. While not so cheap as some home monitors you will find; it is less expensive than some other less capable BP monitors. If you consider all of the features offered by this monitor, then it is definitely one of the better values available.

Most important of the units many features is the invaluable Irregular Heartbeat Detection technology, found in this Lifesource monitor. IHD warns users about possible arrhythmia issues. Irregular heartbeat conditions detected by the monitor can then be discussed with a physician and further diagnosed. I cannot begin to tell how very important this feature could prove for many people who suffer arrhythmia conditions. In only a few years, the IHD technology has already saved countless lives with early detection. Early detection leads to a better chance of correcting a defective condition.

The TimeWise system, used by the Lifesource UA-853AC, makes the monitor aware of both morning and evening BP readings, and is another very useful and informative feature. The Lifesource monitor can also tell you the averages for both morning and evening readings. This can help a physician determine medicine dosages. Many that suffer from hypertension or high blood pressure know that morning and evening medication doses can be different. When it’s time for your next doctor’s appointment, your doctor will be pleased with these reports.

The machine can also be programmed with 3 different alarm times; to remind you that you need to check your pressure (a very handy feature for the slightly absent minded like me). It also has a logging feature that stores your last ninety pressure check results. Your doctor will also really like the logging feature, because the log helps him to gauge the effectiveness of your medication. With its large LCD Display, reading your pressure check result is easy and understandable.

The Lifesource UA853AC is a solidly built machine designed for years use. Lifesource offers a very generous lifetime warranty on the unit as well.

Overall the UA-853AC Lifesource Monitor is a well made, first-rate, quality Blood Pressure Monitor that does everything we can expect a monitor to do. The size of the unit prohibits it from being classified as very convenient for travel purposes; although it could be packed in a larger overnight bag or such.

With reasonable care and use, this Lifesource Monitor will provide you with years of quality and accurate Blood Pressure Results. The UA-853AC monitor is a very good value for the money. This monitor has everything you need and nothing you don’t. This workhorse just works, and works well.

Cholesterol High Blood Pressure

Many things can cause high cholesterol, including:

Diet. Eating too much saturated fat and cholesterol can raise your cholesterol. Saturated fat and cholesterol are in foods that come from animals (such as beef, pork, veal, milk, eggs, butter, and cheese), many packaged foods, stick margarine, vegetable shortening, and snack foods like cookies, crackers, and chips.

Weight. Being overweight may raise triglycerides and lower “good” HDL.

Activity level. Not exercising may raise “bad” LDL and lower HDL.

Overall health. Diseases such as hypothyroidism can raise cholesterol. Smoking may lower HDL.

Age. Cholesterol starts to rise after age 20. In men, it usually levels off after age 50. In women, it stays fairly low until menopause. After that, cholesterol levels rise to about the same levels as in men.

Family. Some people inherit a rare disease called a lipid disorder. It can cause very high total cholesterol, very low HDL, and high triglycerides. If you have this problem, you will need to start treatment at a young age.

How is it treated?

The two main treatments are lifestyle changes and medicines. The goal of treatment is to lower your “bad” LDL cholesterol and reduce your risk of a heart attack. You may also need to raise your “good” HDL cholesterol. A high level of HDL helps reduce your risk of Cholesterol and Heart Disease.

Some lifestyle changes are important for everyone with high blood pressure coronary artery disease. Your doctor will probably want you to:

Follow the Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) diet. The goal is to reduce the amount of saturated fat you eat. Eating saturated fat raises your cholesterol. The TLC diet helps you learn to make better food choices by picking lean meats, low-fat or non-fat products, and good fats like olive and canola oils.

Lose weight, if you need to. Losing just 5 to 10 pounds (2.3 to 4.5 kilograms) can lower your cholesterol and triglycerides. Losing weight can also help lower your blood pressure.

Be more active. Exercise can raise your “good” HDL and may help you control your weight.

Quit smoking, if you smoke. Quitting can help raise your HDL and improve your heart health.

Alcohol Consumption High Blood Pressure.

Eating too substantial saturated fat and cholesterol can raise your cholesterol. Saturated fat and cholesterol are in foods expressly come from animals (intrinsically as beef, pork, veal, milk, eggs, butter, and cheese), copious packaged foods, stick margarine, vegetable shortening, and snack foods approximative cookies, crackers, and chips.

It is important to take your medicine just the way your doctor tells you to. If you stop taking your medicine, your cholesterol will go back up. You will committal to have your cholesterol checked regularly. Your results can upgrade your doctor know if lifestyle changes beset helped or if you need more or altered medicines.

A person who takes medication knows that the cost of medications is growing in this country. For a portion of us, prescription medication help us live a more productive, happier life, but only if we can afford to pay for them. Here are a quantity of ideas that could help you shell out a smaller amount.

Prescriptions help many patients.

1. Talk to your doctor. Not being able to afford prescriptions is not anything to be uncomfortable about. Your medical doctor wishes to realize all that affects your healthcare, including whether or not you can pay for your prescription drugs. If the cost means you could not fill your drugs and take your prescription medication, then it is imperative to be sincere about this with your medical doctor. Taking your medications helps him help you! There could be a cheaper generic medicine or a related prescription medicine that you can get, but your medical doctor may not reflect on these unless you clarify that you can’t pay for the more expensive medicine. Your medical doctor might also have samples of your prescription medication that he can give you at no cost.

2. Shop around. Studies have publicized that prices can vary a sizeable amount from store to store. Amazingly, a medication could be lower priced at one store than at another. As greatly as you may like to have everything at one pharmacy and may perhaps like a special pharmacist, shop all-around to help drop your prescription expenditure. You ought to ask your store if it can go with the lower charge. You can as well ask the pharmacist for part of the prescription medicine if there is the risk that the side effects will suggest you can’t take this medicine. Ask your pharmacist if you can fill the balance of the medication at no additional cost if the medication works for you.

3. Mull over buying online. Savings can be mammoth. Selected very sound Canadian drug stores offer the original, brand name prescription medication and can save you up to 50 %! Be especially cautious though. Do not buy from sites that will plug prescription without a prescription. That is the principal signal that they are not legit. If it’s too good to be true, it possibly isn’t true – don’t send off money or a credit card number.

4. Look for $4.00 Generics. Recently, Target announced that their stores now provide generic prescription medication for $4.00 per prescription fill or refill. CVS and additional pharmacies are considering meeting this price. Be informed that not all generic medication are offered through these programs and several area pharmacies have been offering the medicines, on the lists, at a comparable price. A few critics say that this pricing is a “bait and switch” approach for the reason that many of the prescription medication on the lists are older generics that are hardly ever used. For instance, Sam’s club hopes people who can’t get a hold their drugs for $4.00 may possibly get it at the higher charge then shop at the store before leaving.

5. Investigate your medical benefits conscientiously. If you maintain health insurance, be familiar with what is covered and whether or not there is a maximum to the overall total of coverage each year. The patient can get help with healthcare insurance questions through a SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program).

6. Look for Prescription Assistance Programs (PAPs). If you have a low pay and haven’t checked out these programs, do so. Rx Help is offered to persons who meet criteria set by each different drug company. PAPs supply low-cost or free prescription drugs for individuals who become certified. Remember to look for each and every one your medication, not just the most high-priced.

7. Check out Assistance for Specific Diseases and Conditions. In this group, you can locate assistance with a mixture of medical bills, ranging from presciption insurance co-pay assistance to medical supplies. These programs are listed by individual illness and are now and again limited to identifiable geographic areas.

8. There is prescription drug assistance out there; you only have to be ingenious and self-confident to get the medication that you dreadfully need.

A high diastolic blood pressure symptom is not well known. Even if high diastolic blood pressure symptoms can be seen, the symptoms are normally mild and nonspecific. High diastolic blood pressure is known as silent killer. One, suffering from high blood pressure is not aware of it until he gets his blood pressure measured.

High Diastolic Blood Pressure Symptoms Are

Some of the high diastolic high blood pressure symptoms are headache, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea. People oft do not take medical care till they have signs arising from the organ impairment caused by prolonged high blood pressure. The following types of organ impairment are normally seen in prolonged high blood pressure: heart attack, heart failure, stroke or mini stroke, kidney failure, eye damage with loss of vision, peripheral arterial disease.

Some percentage of people with high blood pressure does not take medical care till the high blood pressure is very worse, a condition called as malignant hypertension. In malignant hypertension, the diastolic blood pressure readings often go past 140 mm Hg. Malignant hypertension may be linked with headache, light-headedness, or nausea. This type of high blood pressure needs emergency hospitalization and bringing down of blood pressure to prevent brain hemorrhage or stroke. It is of uttermost significant to understand that high blood pressure can be undetected for years, causing no signs but causing active damage to the heart, other organs, and blood vessels.

High diastolic blood pressuresymptoms do not oft show up until much after the age of thirty-five. Sometimes, even a individual of fifty or sixty years of age may feel no symptoms and yet have an excessively high systolic pressure like 200 or more. One requires to have a frequent check up of his blood pressure as it causes damage to life. On the other hand, others who may not have pressures as high as this may undergo headaches, ringing in the ears, dizziness and other awkward feelings. Soon after diagnosis high diastolic blood pressure remedy should be taken to prevent further damage.
High diastolic blood pressure symptoms are linked with the secondary causes of high blood pressure (hypertension). Hypertension happens in 10-15% of adults and is defined by systolic blood pressuregreater or equal to 140 mmhg or a diastolic blood pressure higher to or equal to 90 mmhg. Most of hypertension is considered necessary, meaning there is no secondary reason. When secondary causes of high blood pressure happen, they can be seen in link with primary hyperaldosteronism, pheochromocytoma, cushing’s syndrome, and oral contraceptives.

High blood pressure is a disease where the individual suffers from an elevated blood pressure. This disease can be dangerous because it can be lethal for those who let this condition go unchecked. Physical signs of high blood pressure are virtually nonexistent. The fact that there are literally no visible physical signs of high blood pressure mean that there may be some difficulty on detecting or recognizing if an individual has this condition.

The implications of high blood pressure can be a fatality due to a stroke, heart attack and other heart conditions that spring from high blood pressure. A lot of things can be done to improve one’s physical state especially when one has high blood pressure. To stay away from the death due to high blood pressure, take healthy diet and keep exercising useful in high blood pressure.

Symptoms And Physical Signs Of High Blood Pressure Of High Blood Pressure

Although there are no definitive visible physical signs of high blood pressure, there are physical signs of high blood pressure which can be detected through tests. There are some vague physical signs of high blood pressure which can be connected to the condition once it has been established through a battery of tests. Unclear vision, vomiting and feeling of heaviness in back side of the neck are some other signs. These physical signs may lead to other serious diseases more dangerous tha high blood pressure.

The early signs of high blood pressure consist of an elevated heart rate at times accompanied by a feeling of dizziness or nausea. Another early sign of hypertension can be the presence of the condition in family members. The hypertension can also occur due to genes transfered from parents to their children. Other non physical signs of high blood pressure include going out of breath after just a single flight of stairs and not being able to exercise comfortably due to a feeling of nausea or dizziness when exerting effort.

Just because there are practically no physical signs of high blood pressure to base one’s observations on, does not mean that one should just let the feelings of discomfort slide when you suspect you may have high blood pressure. Sometimes, a person’s instinct about one’s physical well being can be accurate or somehow connected to something in the body. There does not necessarily have to be physical signs of high blood pressure for a person to consult a doctor to see if he has the condition.

Ventricular Fibrillation or V-fib is the result of the heart contracting and relaxing in rapid succession. This event leads to a lack of cardiac output which does not allow for blood, oxygen and nutrients to flow properly throughout the body. In this event, sudden death can occur.

The main cause of ventricular fibrillation is heart disease, as well as chemical imbalances.

The Imbalance of Electrolytes:

Electrolytes are chemicals in the body which the heart requires in order to function properly. If there is too much or not enough electrolytes, the heart reacts by beating irregularly. This causes an arrhythmia which can lead to cardiac death.

Amazingly, one of the best sources for electrolytes is good old fashioned chicken noodle soup. Our mother’s were right; it is good for what ails us. However, it is important to implement caution when using processed soups as they contain very high levels of salt. This can be extremely dangerous for someone who must monitor their salt intake. Instead, turn to the tried and true homemade soups.

Electrolytes:

Bicarbonate Calcium Chloride Magnesium Phosphate Potassium Sodium Sulfate

All are necessary at the appropriate levels for normal heart functioning. Electrolytes can be lost through heavy perspiration or increased urination. Anything that causes the body to rapidly lose fluids can result in electrolyte imbalance, which can lead to cardiac arrhythmia.

The Symptoms:

Often, before a V-fib episode occurs, the patient will complain of heaviness in the chest, difficulty breathing and profuse sweating. If a V-fib episode actually occurs due to the heart not pumping properly, the patient will collapse, be unresponsive and have no pulse or blood pressure.

What are the Treatments?

V-fib has dire consequences and is treated via emergency measures. Cardioversion using a defibrillator shocks the heart back into rhythm, as well as the administration of anti-arrhythmic medications given intravenously. All work together to get the heart back into normal sinus rhythm (NSR). In some cases, the doctor may employ a technique called carotid massage, which releases chemicals into the body that slow down the heart rate. Carotid massage is usually reserved for younger patients because of the risk of stroke in older patients. However, it has been used on older patients as necessary and depending on their present condition.

Prevention Is Key:

This situation can lead to sudden death. In many cases, after a patient has been successfully stabilized, a mechanical ventilator may be required to help them breathe until they are stable enough to do it on their own. In addition, these patients as well as those having experienced a heart attack run the risk of experiencing V-fib again. In order to offset this risk, surgical procedures may be done to insert a defibrillator or pacemaker in the upper left portion of the patients chest. When an abnormal rhythm occurs, the device sends out small shockwaves that bring the heart back to a normal rhythm.

In my opinion, everyone should be given a CPR course. I also believe that this lifesaving tool should be taught in schools all over the world. This knowledge is extremely helpful if small children or elderly live in the home. The course runs about 2 to 3 days and can be taken at your local Red Cross. A small amount of time is worth the knowledge of how to save a life.

High blood pressure or hypertension is the elevated pressure of the flow of blood in the blood stream. It is necessary to manage and care properly of this disease otherwise it can be deadly for you. There are several early signs of high blood pressure that are actually not noticeable enough to be attributed to hypertension. These early signs of high blood pressure are quite common ailments that can be caused by any number of things which may not even b connected to having high blood pressure.

The Role Of Genetics Is The Early Signs Of High Blood Pressure

A person’s genes are probably one of the early signs of high blood pressure that is certainly early enough. If your parents or ancestors had the problem of high blood pressure then it is an early sign of high blood pressure in you. Follow preventive measures to avoid the risk of hypertension if many of your family members have high blood pressure history. Obesity in the family is also another factor that can contribute to high blood pressure in a person who is one the way to being obese or overweight.

Other Early Signs Of High Blood Pressure

Other not so definitive signs of high blood pressure in men and women are nausea or dizziness when exerting effort, hyperventilation and shortness of breath when exerting effort and palpitations. All these early signs of high blood pressure will no be so noticeable if the person does not often exert effort. Another early sign of high blood pressure is a feeling of heaviness in the nape when tense of anxious. This feeling does not often occur in people who may have hypertension but it can be a definitive sign of high blood pressure for those with a family history.

Apart from the heavy feeling in the nape, all other early signs of high blood pressure are quite random and may not be initially associated with high blood pressure when one is not looking for it. Even the heavy feeling in the nape can be attributed to other things which will not point to high blood pressure.

The best thing to do if an individual does have a family history of high blood pressure is to have a check up to see how high his blood pressure is. Relying on recognizing early signs of high blood pressure may be too vague and too late. The early signs of high blood pressure are virtually not physically noticeable compared to having the blood pressure taken.

Cholesterol is a vital element for tissue growth, repair and hence the health of your body. Cholesterol comes in a variety of combinations. For the sake of simplicity, we’ll get to know the basics of the two which are critical for our health. These are HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. HDL stands for “high density lipoprotein” and LDL stands for “low density lipoprotein”. The HDL cholesterol combination is good for the body, whereas the LDL cholesterol has a negative effect on our health. The body has its own mechanism to regulate the quantities of these two cholesterol combinations for optimum health. The balance of these two types of cholesterol is vital for our health, and directly affects our chances of suffering from heart disease.

Simply put, we should do our best to enhance the level of HDL (good) cholesterol and reduce the level of LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Modern allopathy has a number of medicines in its armory which can combat heart disease. These must be taken under medical guidance because their incorrect use may endanger your very life. Here are some alternative therapies which can reduce your risk of heart disease safely, simply. The first is cardiovascular exercise which improves the health of the circulatory system. Cardiovascular exercise is a proven therapeutic activity to bring your cholesterol to a healthy level.

The generally held medical opinion is that thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise every day is sufficient to control bad cholesterol levels. Dr. Mercola thinks otherwise. He stresses the importance of exercise being exercise, not a form of relaxation. Exercise is beneficial to health only when we feel exerted. This can be done in two ways: either increase the stress level of the exercise, or increase its duration. He feels that the second option is the safer of the two. Simply jogging in the park for the stipulated thirty minutes is not going to do an iota of good for our cholesterol level, says Dr. Mercola. Extend the jog to an hour, and then you’ll experience an appreciable reduction of bad cholesterol. Whatever form of exercise you choose, just make sure you exercise regularly.

Cardiovascular exercise is your most formidable weapon against cardiovascular disease. Diet control is extremely important to reap the full benefits of cardiovascular exercise. Recognize that some types of fat are good for HDL cholesterol: these are mono-unsaturated fats, and omega-3 fats. Virgin olive oil is recommended for your health. Avoid canola oil, because though it is a mono-unsaturated fat it is generally obtained from genetically modified sources. Saturated fats are bad for the HDL cholesterol level.

Omega-3 fats are instrumental in raising good HDL cholesterol. Salmon and tuna are good natural sources of omega-3 fats, but you can get your dietary requirement through purified omega-3 supplements. Avoid margarine as completely as possible. Pastries and processed food treats which are sugary and fatty are bad for HDL cholesterol. Follow these simple guidelines and watch your HDL cholesterol bounce back to good healthy levels.

Next put your lifestyle under a scanner. Do you smoke? Cigarette smoking is turning out to be a bigger killer than originally thought. Stop it, immediately! Smoking smothers the HDL cholesterol in the blood. Are you obese? Obesity aids and abets the malefic HDL cholesterol. Follow regular workouts specially designed to reduce obesity.

Modern life is very hectic. This leads to many stressful situations. Stress has an immediate effect on the cholesterol level in the blood. Stress management techniques are very helpful in keeping the cholesterol balance at a healthy level. Change your outlook on life to handle stressful situations safely. Consider a change of work environment for the sake of your health.

This article shows you how to improve the HDL cholesterol level in three simple ways: regular cardiovascular exercise, proper nutrition, and curbing lifestyle excesses. Follow these steps to improve your HDL cholesterol. Once that happens you will be protected from critical heart diseases.
